-No one makes eye contact. Ever. Don't be the loser who makes eye contact.
-In accordance, don't smile either.
-In order to get experience, you somehow already need experience. It's catch 22.
-It can take you 45 minutes to go a mile. How does anyone ever commute to this city? It takes long enough when you're in it!
-Buy a good pair of shoes to walk in that don't make you look like the tool wearing Asics with your dress trousers (I never did this).
-Sex and the City made it look like there were guys on every corner just waiting for you to look up. In reality, women outnumber men 5:1, and the :1 is either married or gay. Just saying.
-For the love of God, wait for the light to change to 'walk' before attempting to jaywalk. Especially if crossing a two-way thoroughfare.

ReplyDeleteAlthough we don't know one another, I myself have lived in this city my whole life and there are a couple things I would like to respond to:
1) Yes, don't make eye contact. Although, people watching and especially people watching on public transportation with your sunglasses on is totally fine. (Don't mean to sound like a total creeper)
2) Sex and the City was a television show. As much of their life that I have experienced personally, no one will ever life in an apartment as nice as Carrie Bradshaw's as a newspaper writer with ALL of her designer clothes and shoes. As for men - go to the bar Ainsworth. It is on 26th between 5th and 6th. Especially on a night when the following sports teams are playing: Yankees, Mets, Jets & Giants. Don't wear your Patriots or Red Sox gear though - but I promise you - the bar is CRAWLING with men... and hot men at that.
3) You will soon enough realize, that waiting for the light to change is a waste of your time. If you don't see a car coming... just go. They will never run you over. Especially cabs (but be careful anyway because they just suck in general).
Hope this helps! And I hope to meet you soon (considering I see Christine's face for 8-9 hours out of my 24 hour day)... and I hope you are loving NYC. AND.. one more thing... I LOVE YOUR BLOG :) ... I'm sure Christine has already voiced this to you.
